Institutional strengthening

The institutional strengthening team has experience in advisory services to public authorities and other stakeholders in water sector reform and regulation. Clarification of roles and responsibilities of various levels in the institutional framework is as important as monitoring and evaluation. Examples include performance indicators, benchmarking, reporting systems.

For more than 25 years, the institutional strengthening has focused on capacity building projects with water and wastewater utilities as well as water sector and environmental institutions, authorities or ministries. During the last 15 years, the emphasis shifted from upgrading of merely technical capacities to an integrated approach to improve all institutional functions. Such as technical, commercial, financial and administrative. This includes capacity building measures and training as major tools. The past five years, we focused on the restructuring and reorganisation level of national water sectors as well as regulatory implementation.

Integrated water resources management has become the most important guideline for managing water resources.
