In order to meet international safety and security standards for aviation activities, the Government of Burkina Faso, with the support of the donor community, has undertaken studies with a view to relocating the airport of Ouagadougou to the outskirts of the city by 2018. Thus, the site of Donsin, a locality located 35 km North-East of the capital, has been selected to receive the new airport platform. This airport platform and its access roads have been the subject of a preliminary design including environmental and social impact assessments, Detailed Engineering Design (DED) studies and the preparation of bidding documents (BD) in 2014.
The on-going construction project is part of the Government's strategy to undertake investments that facilitate economic and social development and contribute to the fight against poverty; in this case by creating jobs during and after the implementation of the projects.
