This project ties in with technical cooperation support for Afghanistan which has been ongoing since 2008 in the water sector and will be continued in the following phase with new emphasis in content.
Field of action 2 of the GIZ water programme includes advising operator structures in the area of drinking water and sanitary supply in Afghan Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Corporation (AUWSSC) as well as in the regional Strategic Business Units (SBUs) of the six major cities (Kabul, Mazar, Herat, Kunduz, Jalalabad, Kandahar) and their local sub-SBUs.
AUWSSC was established by presidential decree in 2009, according to which AUWSSC became a formally independent corporation for the provision of payable, reliable and sustainable water and sewage services.
The operators’ operational capacity should be developed my means of expert and process advice as well as training measures and the procurement of material assets in order to improve operational efficiency and drinking water and sanitary services.
