Integrated Solid Waste Management & Circular Economy

Integrated Solid Waste Management & Circular Economy

In rapidly growing urban areas and centres, diversified waste generation and recyclable materials are increasing. Traditional and linear solid waste management systems represent a challenge in many countries around the world. Inappropriate collection-and-disposal, or Take-Make-Use-Dispose systems pose serious environmental problems and are not in line with global environmental goals such as climate neutrality, plastic pollution treaties or pacts, and a just transition to a circular economy (CE). Nowadays, environmental awareness has gained ground; new laws and regulations related to environmental protection, solid waste management (SWM) and CE have been adopted. However, SWM systems are often unable to cope with the growing amounts of waste.  Competent authorities at all levels find it difficult to upgrade and maintain their SWM systems according to national laws and international best practices due to budgetary constraints and lack of expertise.

GOPA Infra’s core services in Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) and CE respond to several international donor programmes and initiatives, such as the Green Deal of the European Union (EU), the Marine Litter Prevention of GIZ or the Clean Ocean Initiative of KfW, EIB and AFD. All of these programmes take into account climate action, sustainable industry and the abatement of pollution. We provide services for waste streams and key product value chains to promote circularity and unlock economic opportunities in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. We take into account sustainable, comprehensive expertise and cost-effective solutions for stakeholders at local, regional, and national levels. All our services take into consideration safeguards, gender-specific, conflict-specific, and context-sensitivite measures to ensure holistic solutions.

We are active members of the German RETech Partnership and PREVENT Waste Alliance to enable a constant exchange of knowledge and ensure that we are always up to date with the latest developments.
